Breath Like Moss

Breath Like Moss
Breath like moss
with every sunlit inhale
crawls over my insides.
Spilling green all over my
jaguar heart
and trunks of bone,
canopy lungs
tendony roots
belly lagoon.
Life into death
at the rate we weren't raised to believe.
Whether we like it or not,
this body is a tender moment
holding its own time.
I have been breathing
these layers of life
for your future and mine.
I have been breathing
for all of our lives
because when I breathe
I believe the moss spirits away
to the darkest corner
of some unseen place
and breaks it down
to grow another bright flower
in another marvelous spring.
