Letters to Sequoia

Entry no.4

Dear Sequoia,

You might get a crush on someone someday.

The best thing you can do when you start to have feelings or care for another person is to explore all of the reasons why. The fun part is watching them do the things that make you smile. Enjoy everything about how you feel when you feel it. Eventually, and hopefully, they'll catch on and make you want to smile more often.

This is a a photo I took of a painting titled "Sabrocito" by Jesus Molina. My dear friend Jorge bought me a signed print. It was such a treat.

If said crush doesn't end up working out, share your feelings with those who will support you no matter what. It's always a good idea to know what your resources are, regardless of whether or not you plan to use them.

And, depending on when you read this, if timing works out that while your heart is healing you find a Dia de los Muertos celebration where you can get your face painted while hearing the sound of drums and the battle cry of a Latin love song, go do that. I'v found that drums, friendship and face paint are pretty effective remedies for heartbreak. And if that doesn't do it for you, we'll find what will.

I just put your diapers in the dryer. Your mom and dad are out on a date on a windy and warm October evening. I am writing and watching you sleep.
